one day when i was about six years old, i was walking from my school bus stop to my apartment building, when it suddenly started raining... but it wasn't raining raindrops. it was raining origami paper! small 5cm x 5cm ones that come in colourful rainbow, floral, patterned, pastel prints.

i suspected that some kid was throwing them down from one of the higher apartment suite verandahs - i looked up, but i couldn't tell which suite it was. the apartment buildings were at least 15 storys high, and it was a complex of three or so buildings. i often threw toys and other stuff down from the verandah when i was bored, so it made sense that some other kid did it. i've never found who the mystery person was, though.

it was an Ameliesque moment.

like someone watching was doing all these crazy poetic things.

anyway, i started picking up the origami paper from the concrete, and so did the other kids who were just dropped off at the school bus stop. i scrambled to get the prettiest ones. i must have spent over an hour collecting every single one i could find. i collected over three hundred, i think. i still have half of them left, unused, in a small box. they must be pretty old and i'm surprised they haven't yellowed or disintegrated into bits.

the thing is, the whole looking-up-and-seeing-origami-paper-falling-down thing was really crazy and magical. surreal, almost. during the first minute, i was completely bewildered and i thought i was dreaming. it was like god sent down all the origami papers. bits of colours and prints falling down.

anyway. that memory was in my head for a while 'coz ive made a shitload of paper cranes lately out of something to do with my hands (as if you couldn't tell from the photos). true story.
